2010 SPONSORS

The 2010 student CAD Competition is now closed

COMPETITION OVERVIEW

Overview

We’re looking for the best student SolidWorks modellers in the UK! The grand prize winners will be offered a 2 month, paid, summer placement at Innovate Product Design, a vibrant design consultancy and the UK’s leading invention development company.

All you need to do is submit your best CAD models, created in SolidWorks. For more details, read on.

The Brief

To enter the competition, simply produce an excellent CAD model in SolidWorks, in one of our four categories.

These categories are:

  • Automotive and Transportation
  • Consumer Products
  • Electronics
  • General

Your model can be an assembly or a part, and can be modelled in any version of SolidWorks. You can enter as many models as you wish, but each one must only be listed under one category.

Closing Date: 31st March 2010

Entry

Entry to the competition is completely free. Only students enrolled onto a UK Higher Education course are eligible to enter – should your entry become shortlisted, we will ask you to provide proof of your enrolment.

Your entry will be competing against other students from the same university year group. In detail, these year groups are:

  • First years
  • Second Years
  • Placement students and those in their third year of a four year course
  • Finalists on both three and four year courses

For detailed instructions on how to enter the competition, please see ‘How to Enter’

Judging

The competition will be judged by some of the UK’s leading SolidWorks professionals. These will include top SolidWorks trainers, SolidWorks professional certified users and several design consultancy directors.

Entries will be judged on:

  • Complexity of the model (30%)
  • Modelling techniques chosen (15%)
  • Robustness of the modelling techniques used (20%)
  • Accuracy and realism of the model (20%)
  • Organisation of the feature tree (15%)

The winners are likely to be models of existing products, as the competition is about CAD modelling rather than design.

Winners

There will be one grand prize winner in each year group. The overall winner of each group will be offered a 2 month, paid, summer placement at Innovate Product Design.

Once the models are uploaded onto Cadooku you will also benefit from the potential to sell your models to users of the website who are looking to purchase high quality SW models.

Please visit the Prizes page for further information.

Publicity

There will be some great publicity opportunities for winners and highly commended entries.

  • The winner from each category in each year group will be featured on the Cadooku model exchange website, receiving over 1000 visitors a week.
  • Winners may also be featured in publications including DEVELOP3D, Eureka, Design Week and New Design.

So, even if you don’t win the grand prize, the competition is still an amazing chance to get your work noticed by key industry recruiters.
